About this deal

A serial killer is murdering local prostitutes; a man demolishing his garden shed uncovers a long-buried skeleton; there is an armed robbery at a local minimart and a ram raid at a jewellers. Comparitively, Torin is reserved and intense and when these two come together there are more sparks than you can handle. I also thought, from the description, that this would be a much more historical tale with the modern part just bookending, but in fact the contemporary and historical sections have about equal page time. But with nowhere to live since his wife’s family sold his matrimonial home, Frost’s got other things on his mind.

That is up until a malfunction causes the robot to rise to the surface and causes her father to disappear sometimes. But there is also a fair bit of theology here, around what it means to be human, and some of that could be sharper.

But first the corpse of a well-known local junkie is found blocking the drain of a Denton public lavatory – and then, when Frost attempts to join the revels later on, the nubile daughter of a wealthy businessman is reported missing. Unfortunately for them, the robots were too intelligent and soon enough realised that they were superior so no longer had use for the humans.

He was the same from beginning to end, a broody, lonely figure who had a secret that would kill him if he revealed it to anyone. We also have Flynn and Barrow , who are side characters who assist on the journey to help Frost to the Battery to help Romes, her adorable broot. As the despised winter approaches, she realises that she can get her case back if she wins the Falcon Queen games.I’m sure this is one of those books where there were lots of discussion about endnotes (At the end of the book) or footnotes (for the bottom of pages), but having read and enjoyed this book, it definitely wanted footnotes, to help those looking for references, and seeing where ideas are coming from. Also mix in her mystery backstory, and his dark secret that has him determined not to fall in love with his wife. If you’re a fan of The Hunger Games or ACOTAR, than this is an easy one to guide you to that will keep your attention and warm your thoughts! At times her love for her pet surpasses the love for her ‘ghost’ father, which is sad but made sense because her pet was the only thing around real enough to merit her emotional investment (until Flynn arrives).

When they are not looking after their two energetic sons, they take turns writing drafts and revising. The author could have easily inserted more graphic material, but reigned it in to keep this work accessible to a younger audience. I mean, when she started ranting at him when meeting him for the first time, I KNEW the tension would be good. If you are into dark romance, books that will constantly have you on the edge of your seat wanting to scream at both of the MCs about how the answers are so blindly in their face this is a book you are going to want to read.

I thought this would be some fantasy version of The Bachelor with a few fae bitch-fighting in high heels over the hot king. Torion is a fae fuckboy, and he knows he's handsome, but I was rooting for him nonetheless because he's broken and I can fix him, okay? Then a young girl is abducted outside the school, an infamous gangster fresh from prison arrives in the area, and dead bodies start turning up in the woods. We get the feeling pretty early on that there's something *sPeCiAL* about her, and usually I don't like it when the FMC is so different because she dares to speak up. The idea of the competition where one would remain standing, in the end, was quite a compelling hook along with the fact the heroine Ava was the unknown fae whose magical powers had so far not been revealed.
