About this deal

From a story about mercenary bands, and the monsters they fight, I take away life lessons, and serious things to think about. She had famous parents in the mercenary and band scene and after a potent and exceptional musical performance at the inn she ends up joining Fable and the adventures begin. M41) - Dimmamar, the birth world of the reforming Ecclesiarch Sebastian Thor, came under attack from the Aeldari of Craftworld Ulthwé in 845. They were druin-forged (or so the songs alleged) and matched to the scimitars— Thistle and Thorn—she wore in scabbards on either hip.

They’d tasted like lemons with a cinnamon rind, and had left her lips, tongue, and teeth so red it looked as if she’d torn the throat out of a deer.

This new army threatens to sweep across Grandual much like Lastleaf’s did in Kings had it not been stopped by the collective might of mercenary union.

Taken as itself, it's a decent yarn but there's almost no "wtf" moments, whether a scene or witty dialogue or commentary. Bloody Rose has so many excellent qualities, it’s impossible to include them all in this review (since you should be reading the book by now anyhow). I'm 28 books into the Drizzt series and somehow I find myself more familiar and bonded to Tam and Fable than Drizzt and the Companions of the hall. With his writing, Eames shred some sweet licks and can go from laughing out loud hilarity to headbanging riffage ( action) to lighters in the air balladry ( emotion) to quiet reflection and back again in the span of a page and he seamlessly transitions between the different aspects sublimely well. She pointed to a barrel-chested northerner sitting between two crenellations, his tangle of brown hair obscuring most of his face.Occasionally when writing ( well, trying to) a review words fail me and they have again with Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames. But that would be to miss the fact that he largely ditched his old characters, changed from an aging band reforming one last time to a current and vibrant one. And that”—she pointed to the woman standing with one boot on the battlement above them—“is Bloody Rose.

It’s enough to make me want to track down a copy of Kings of the Wyld sometime, and I’ll eagerly look forward to the third book in the series (whenever it comes out). There is no one fiercer than Fable, no one more daring, and despite a simple life of tavern waitressing, Tam is quickly embraced as one of the gang. Fable is comprised of Bloody Rose herself, the plot device of Kings of the Wyld whom we only ever met towards the end, her druin lover Freecloud, Cura, named the Inkwitch for the magical tattoos that cover her entire body, and Brune, a big bear of a man who can turn into, you guessed it, a large bear.

Tam is not Clay Cooper (POV character for KOTW), experienced mercenary who sees his bandmates as just people. Bloody Rose is a work of literary art, something incredibly rare and valuable and shows just how engrossing fiction can be. What might have surprised me was how much more I would enjoy Bloody Rose than I ever did The Great Gatsby, because while Eames may not quite have the melancholy romance of an F. After six solar months, the influx of Tyranids into the system ceased, and after six more the last xenos creature was finally slain. M41) - En route to Ultramar, a fleet of Sororitas comprising multiple preceptories of the Bloody Rose stopped on the lone planet in the Thresh System.

She works as a barmaid at The Cornerstone which is the main establishment where all the bands or warriors in town frequent, drink and fight. She’d never actually seen Bloody Rose before, but she knew every story, had heard every song, and had seen the warrior’s likeness on walls or sketched on posters around town, though chalk and charcoal hardly did the real thing justice. Fantasy imagery has been baked into the genre from the beginning, ranging from ‘picture of a dude with a sword on the cover’ to ‘we wrote a concept album about the Silmarillion.Oh, she could fire a bow with passing skill, but anyone with two arms and an arrow to spare could do the same. Like any teenager, she yearns for something bigger than what life has to offer her, so when she’s offered a chance to accompany the famed adventurer Bloody Rose and her band to chronicle their latest (and final) quest, she leaps at the opportunity. I do look forward to the next book but for me personally, more of the first book please, not the second.
