About this deal

The sales ranking of 342,754 suggests there has been a sale in the past few months, but of course there is no knowing how much the book actually went for. One of the chapters is entitled: “Enhancing your attractiveness to the spectator” and it is all about he, as a man, essentially seduces female spectators to build rapport. I have it signed and up on my bookshelf next to his other books and my DVD of The Devil's Picture Book, all signed, and I won't sell them any time soon.

Recently, in my review of Barrie Richardson's Theater of the Mind (November 1999 Genii), I commented on a "new age of mentalism" and the trend of prominent sleight-of-hand workers taking up mentalism. Mercury Monarch — it was the only way we could be near a free wifi connection — this is some kind of book.

So many of us – the author included – is exactly the chirpy, happy guy that approaches a table with the words, “Take a Card, Any Card” on his lips.

Together we will bring this bright goodness to the surface and polish it until it shimmers and dances, beckons and seduces. Derren holds his arm in the same way, when Derren drops his arm, the particpants arm drops at the same time. but yes they are very collectable and i'm lucky to own first editions on both books (which have been signed by the man himself) and i dont want to get rid of them.I have had enough of whole-burnt rams and fat of fatlings; In the blood of calves, lambs and goats I find no pleasure. Several of these items were pulled out of the hardcover later editions as Derren thought them too precious. I also own a second edition copy, it's hard cover and I also have never heard before about a spiral version of this book!

He readily admits that he can’t but he does admit to knowing people and knowing – in a manner similar to the methods of Dai Vernon – what they are saying by their movements and absence of movements. With flamboyant wit, Derren explains the secrets and techniques that he uses to amaze the experts, drawing from hypnotic skills and breathtaking psychological artistry. Plus those looking to discover the wonderous treasure trove of Derren's unique psychological methods will quickly come crashing down to earth upon reading this. But if your into Magic and Mentalism, and want improve your routines and add some tricks to your sets, then this has to be in your book shelf.

So when he published his own book ('Tricks of the Mind') for the general public, with a view to publishing more as well, he knew that large numbers of lay folk would try and track down any previous works. Recently I've been reading books/essays and watching videos from a few contemporary young mentalists, and it was also interesting to see how this book seems to have influenced their approaches. What does "concerns about the direction his career is taking" mean and what does his career change have to do with what he previously printed?

I also remember he makes several (quite sexist) jokes about women, seemingly to stress that he is straight, throughout. The one trick that many will be talking about but few will use, entitled "Smoke"—in which a thought-of card (from a face-up deck that is ribbon spread upon a table) is quite mysteriously divined, then instantly vanishes from the deck, whereupon the cigarette the performer has been blithely (and actually) smoking shockingly transforms into the card itself—in many ways crystallizes the ideas at the core of this book.

We usually receive material to be reviewed by contributions from authors or inventors or innovators. This is significant not only because it says so much about the book but it says so much about the method in which we came to own his book because w e actually purchased it. I also think the chapter you are referring too (false anchors) is in absolute magic and not pure effect. However judging by the number completed auctions, it doesn't look like either of them do for legitimate copies of their books.
