About this deal

Kern proposes an intersectional way at looking at the crisis that seek to reveal the violence based on class, race, gender and sexuality. Publication dates are subject to change (although this is an extremely uncommon occurrence overall). I also appreciate both that she acknowledges her privilege as a white woman and how this has affected her as well as ends the book with concrete actions to take to dispute these lies. Readers who have read a fair amount on gentrification might think Kern’s book won’t offer any surprises, but Gentrification is Inevitable may encourage you to reframe and rethink some of your ideas.

How can we convince someone a mom-and-pop restaurant is as important as the new eatery with 100 beers on tap? Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously.

I think that this book serves as a well-written and digestible introductory text into gentrification and the various factors that affect it. En otras palabras, reconoce que la gentrificación es un generada por del capitalismo, pero la agenda que plantea más que ser abiertamente capitalista, juega con soluciones dentro del mismo capitalismo y de baja escala (desde lo local). Like the author, I am white middle mom who made this place my home to find a cheaper way to raise my kids in an expensive city, opening the flood gates for yoga studios, drag brunch, and oat milk lattes. By the time this book is in your hands, the stories I weave here will have already begun to unravel and be rewoven by others.Certain myths and lies mentioned in the book are not properly demystified, on which I hope the author had done a better job. Gentrification Is Inevitable and Other Lies challenges a number of well-entrenched perspectives on gentrification from the anticapitalist left as well as the market-minded right.

At once a devastating critique of the limitations of established perspectives on gentrification and a convincing plea for an intersectional approach, this book offers sparklingly clear analysis and numerous possibilities for political action. Analyzing connections between gentrification and culture, money, class, communities and more, she challenges readers to dismantle the ‘common sense’ train of thought that it is inevitable. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.

Pros: It made me consider cultural capital as a power dynamic in gentrification and how cultural power dynamics in shape personal taste. Too many references to other authors in the text made it at times a bit of a mash-up: other views could have been more often integrated more elegantly with a footnote referring to the authors. Gentrification Is Inevitable and Other Lies is a humane analysis of the many contributing and consequential factors of urban takeovers. I think the intersectionality should have been handled better in a book all about cultural power dynamics. After a few chapters, it felt more of a heavy scholarly read, but still interesting enough to keep going.Este libro de Leslie Kern es un buen texto que se centra en desmitificar varias ideas populares sobre el fenómeno de gentrificación.
